How Running Changed My Life

I've been running since I was 15, and whenever I needed to lose weight, I just needed to go for a short run four times a week. Within a month, I was down a few pounds and feeling much better. Not only did my fitness improve, but thanks to running, I finally got to know my surroundings.

When I moved from my hometown of Krnov to Prague at the age of 17, I was overwhelmed by its scope. Suddenly, I was alone, without my mom, and I had to make new friends and get used to a completely different environment. My only security was social media and you, who follow me. Running helped me see Prague from a different perspective, stop being afraid of the big and unknown, and at the same time had a positive impact on my physical and mental health.

My tips for falling in love with running

If you’re new to running, here are a few things to help you enjoy it and not give up after your first try:

•Start slowly – you don’t have to run miles right away. Just start with a five-minute run and gradually increase your pace.

•Find your rhythm – don’t try to run like a pro athlete. Find a pace that you’re comfortable with.

•Listen to music or podcasts – this will help distract you from fatigue and make running a more enjoyable experience.

•Have comfortable shoes – the wrong shoes can cause pain and ruin the whole experience.

•Explore new places – running is a great way to get to know your surroundings. Try different routes, parks or city neighborhoods.
